Florence Worley was born in 1870 at Iver in Buckinghamshire, daughter of Gordon Henry Worley and his wife nee Eliza Annett.
The family were living at Iver Heath when the 1871 Census was taken, but by 1876 had moved to Wraysbury in Buckinghamshire. Shortly before the Census was taken in 1881 they had moved to a cottage at Kingsdown, Dartford in Kent. They moved again by 1888 to 6 Factory Yard at Hanwell in Middlesex, but by 1892 were living at 39 Bedford Road in neighbouring Ealing, Middlesex (1).
Her father was a gardener, and would have been employed in the extensive Middlesex market gardens then a prominent feature of the still largely rural Hanwell and Ealing.
Florence Worley was married on Christmas Day 1892 at St John's church in Ealing to Herbert Edward Brown. Both were aged 22 years (2).
The father of the bride Gordon Henry Worley and Ruth Worley her sister were the witnesses.
Herbert Edward and Florence Brown lived at 29 Westfield Road in Ealing, and had the following children, all born in Ealing:
Kate Mabel Brown. She was born in 1893. When the 1911 Census was taken she was working as a housemaid in the household of a wine merchant at 13 Queen's Road in Ealing. She was unmarried, and died in 1978 at Havering in London.
Edie Emma Brown. She was born in 1895.
Herbert Edward Brown. He was born in 1896.
William George Brown. He was born in 1898.
Percy Walter Brown. He was born in 1900.
Evelyn Minnie Brown. She was born in 1907, and died in Kensington in 1963.
Sidney James Brown. He was born in 1909.
Peggy Jane Brown. She was born in 1910.
(1) The district was then called Ealing Dean but is now West Ealing in the London Metropolitan Borough of Ealing. Florence Worley was four months old when the Census was taken on 2 April 1871. She could just have been born in January of that year, but it is more likely that she was born late in 1870.
(2) The bride was then a spinster aged 22 years living at 39 Bedford Road, and the groom was a bachelor also aged 22 years, a labourer living at 16 Kirchen Road.
Bedford Road and Kirchen Road are neighbouring parallel roads in West Ealing, north of Ealing Broadway and south of the Great Western Railway line.
