Alfred Worley was born in 1847 at Iver in Buckinghamshire, the son of William Worley 1822-1873 and his wife nee Mary Elizabeth Gurney 1815-1879.

In 1876 he married Mary Ann Kent at Belper in Derbyshire. She was born in 1851 in Derby, the daughter of Henry Kent, a builder and grocer born in 1829 at Brailsford in Derbyshire. When the 1891 Census was taken they were living at 75 High Road in Hillingdon in Middlesex.

They had the following children:

Gertrude Sarah Worley. She was born in 1877 at Iver, and baptised on 28 October 1877 at Duffield in Derbyshire. When the 1891 Census was taken she was with her grandfather, who was by then a widower, and his son Arthur Kent, at King Street in Duffield.

William Worley. He was born in 1880 at Iver.

Maude Worley. She was born in 1884 at Ripley in Derbyshire.

Annie Worley. She was born in 1886 at Iver.

Arthur Worley. He was born in 1887 at Harrow on the Hill in Middlesex.

Alfred Worley. He was born in 1888 at Harrow on the Hill.

Minnie Worley. She was born in 1890 at Hillingdon.

May Worley. She was born in 1893 at Reading.

Alice Worley. She was born in 1897. She was married on 17 December 1916 to Victor John Dutton at St Clement's church, Kensington in London.

Mary Ann Worley died in 1900 aged 48 years, and was buried on 13 February 1900 at Hillingdon.

When the Census was taken on 31 March 1901, Alfred Worley was a widower living at Colham Green in Hillingdon, aged 48 years, a fruit and vegetable dealer. With him were his sons Arthur and Alfred, and a visitor Alice Lucas, a general domestic servant born in Reading in 1984.

On 3 June 1901 he married Alice Mary Lucas at Hillingdon parish church (2). She was the daughter of Walter Lucas, a gardener.

Alfred Worley was then a greengrocer, living at Colham Green in Hillingdon (1).

In 1911 they were living at 1 Newells Cottages, Mount Pleasant, Southall in Middlesex. Alfred Worley was then recorded as being a gardener.

They had the following children:

Bertha Annie Worley. She was born on 4 March 1901 at Colham Green, and baptised on 9 June 1901 at St John's church, Hillingdon.

George Worley. He was born in 1903 at Colham Green.

Elizabeth Worley. She was born in 1905 at Southall.

Frederick Worley. He was born in 1907 at Southall.

Leonard Worley. He was born in 1910 at Southall.

Their father Alfred Worley died in 1916.

Notes

(1) The entry in the marriage register gives his age as then being 48 years. The bride was 27 years old and living at the same address. His age was given as being 48 but he was in fact 51 years old. His occupation of greengrocer is stated in the baptism register of his daughter Bertha Annie Worley.
(2) The banns had been read on 19 May, 26 May and 2 June 1901.
