Charles Allen Du Val

William Melland 1675-1725

William Melland was born in 1675, the son of William Melland 1635-1708 and his wife Rebecca (maiden surname unknown). He was baptised at Youlgreave in Derbyshire on 17 October 1675.

In 1699 he married Dorothy Goodwin, the daughter of Joseph Goodwin of Hurdlow and his wife Margaret (maiden surname unknown).

Their children were:

John Melland. He was baptised on 25 June 1702 at Youlgreave. He married Rebecca Briddon.

Sarah Melland. She was baptised on 1 November 1704 at Youlgreave.

Elizabeth Melland. She was baptised on 11 February 1707 at Youlgreave.

William Melland. He was baptised on 12 April 1710 at Youlgreave. He married Anne Steeple of Aldwark in Derbyshire, and died in 1764.

Margaret Melland. She was baptised on 13 July 1713 at Youlgreave.

Rachel Melland. She was baptised in 1716. She was married to Stephen Staley of Winster in Derbyshire, and they had a daughter Dorothy Staley baptised in 1744 at Winster. Rachel Staley died in 1748 aged 32 years.

Hannah Melland. She was baptised on 1 December 1718 at Middleton-by-Youlgreave.

Francis Melland. He was baptised on 19 April 1721 at Youlgreave.

Their father William Melland died in 1725 (modern reckoning) and was buried at Youlgreave on 16 March 1725.
