Elizabeth Anne Cowgill was born in 1842 at Manchester, the daughter of William Cowgill 1805-1886 and his wife née Louisa Maulton 1820-1899. She was baptised on 26 February 1843 at St Paul's church, Manchester. Her father was a print and calico merchant in that city.

When the Census was taken in 1861 the family were living at 8 Old Trafford Terrace, Stretford in Manchester.

In the following year she was married to Francis Pershouse 1841-1923 at Barton-on-Irwell near Manchester.

They had the following children:

Henry Clifden Pershouse. He was born in 1863 at Eglwys Fach in Denbighshire, Wales. In 1897 he married Annie Julia Watkins Baker, and died at Leigh Woods, Long Ashton in Somerset on 9 October 1919.

William Bradney Pershouse. He was born in 1865 at Eglwys Fach. He died in 1914.

Frederick Pershouse. He was born in 1867 at St Leonard's in Sussex. He married Dorothea Tennant Miller 1881-1959, and died in 1932.

Elizabeth Pershouse. She was born in 1869 at St Leonard's. She died in 1948.

Frank Pershouse. He was born in 1871 at St Leonard's. In 1891 he was a medical student. He died in 1951.

Minnie Pershouse. She was born in 1872 at Torquay in Devon. She died in 1921.

Mary Pershouse. She was born in 1875 at Torquay. She died in 1948.

Stanley Pershouse. He was born in 1878 at Torquay. He died in 1939.

Louisa Pershouse. She was born in 1881 at Torquay. She died in 1982.

In 1871 the family were living at Trafford House, Brittany Road, St Leonard's in Sussex. From 1881 they lived at Torquay in Devon.

Elizabeth Anne Pershouse née Cowgill died on 13 July 1903 in Torquay. Administration of her estate was granted on 8 August 1903 (1).

Her husband Francis Pershouse died on 11 May 1923 in Torquay. His Will was proved on 22 August 1923 (2).

The daguerreotype and painting are believed to have been made by Charles Allen Du Val, and are included by kind permission of the owner Dr Alan Lloyd-Smith.
