Frederick Samuel Bolton was born in Birmingham in 1818. He was the son of Beatrice Bolton 1790-1855, who became the wife of The Reverend Robert Anlezark 1764-1845, by a previous marriage.

On 24 November 1834 he became a student at St John's College in Cambridge, and matriculated there at Michaelmas 1835. He was awarded the degree of Bachelor of Arts in 1839, Master of Arts in 1842, and Bachelor of Divinity in 1849. He was ordained deacon in 1841 and priest in 1844 at Lichfield cathedral.

The Reverend Frederick Samuel Bolton MA BD was Assistant Master at Bridgnorth Grammar School in Shropshire from 1839 to 1850. He was Vicar of Salt in Staffordshire from 1851 until 1876, became Prebendary of Hansacre in Lichfield cathedral in 1869, and was Rural Dean of Stafford from 1871 to 1876. He was Rector of Tattenhill in Staffordshire from 1876 until his death in 1880. (Tattenhill is now called Tatenhill.)

The Reverend Frederick Samuel Bolton died at Tatenhill on 12 May 1880 aged 62 years (1). He was a liturgical scholar and published the following books:

On 13 February 1851 he had married Mary Anne Rowley, daughter of the Reverend Dr Thomas Rowley, Rector of Middle Scriven in Shropshire and formerly Headmaster of Bridgnorth Grammar School. She was born in Bridgnorth in 1827. Theu had the following children:

Frederick Richard Thomas Bolton. He was born at Salt in 1852. In 1881 he was a private tutor living unmarried with his widowed mother at Kirby Park, West Kirby in Cheshire.

Walter Rowley Bolton. He was born in 1854 at Willey in Shropshire. In 1881 he was a cotton salesman living unmarried with his mother at Kirby Park, West Kirby in Cheshire.

Mary Beatrice Bolton. She was born at Salt in 1860. In 1881 she was living unmarried with her mother at Kirby Park, West Kirby in Cheshire.

Reginald C Bolton. He was born at Salt in 1864.
