George Wilkinson was born in 1814 in Stockport in Cheshire. He was a Master Cotton Manufacturer.
On 26 April 1837 he married Elizabeth Lawton at St Mary's parish church in Stockport.
They had the following children:

In 1841 they were living at Frances Street in Stockport, but by 1851 they had moved to Dodge Hill House, Heaton Norris in Stockport.
Elizabeth Wilkinson nee Lawton died in 1854 at Blackpool, and was buried on 9 September 1854 at Tiviot Dale Methodist Church, Stockport.
In 1856 George Wilkinson married Sarah Ann Lamb in Manchester. She was born in Lincoln in 1834, the daughter of Thomas and Emily Lamb of 17 Broad Gate, St. Swithin's in Lincoln. Thomas Lamb was an innkeeper.

George Wilkinson had several cotton mills in the district, and was a benefactor to the town of Stockport. He was also interested in its continuing industrial development, particularly in ensuring good railway connection. He was the Deputy Chairman of the Stockport, Timperley & Altrincham Junction Railway and also of the Stockport and Woodley Railway (1).
George Wilkinson died at his home Dodge Hill House in Heaton Norris on 1 May 1878 (2), and was buried on 6 May 1878 at Tiviot Dale Methodist Church in Stockport. His Will was proved on 31 May 1878 (3).
In 1911 Sarah Ann Wilkinson was living at 50 York Road, Brighton in Sussex with her unmarried daughter Sarah Francis Wilkinson, a private secretary. She died in Sussex in 1922.
