Allen Du Val was born in late 1866, the eldest son of Gerald Du Val and his wife nee Catherine Shimwell.

In the 1881 Census Return he was described as a "chemist". but nothing more about him has been found in Census Returns or the Registers of Births, Marriages and Deaths for England and Wales.

On 26 June 1897 a “Mr Allan Du Val” sailed from Liverpool on the SS Dahomey, bound for Sierra Leone. This may have been him, and it is thought in the family that he went to Argentina and had a family in Buenos Aires (1).
